Yesterday, in the early morning, I put on my mask and stepped out into the sunny crisp spring day with my daughter. I grabbed some packing tape and one of the large scale posters I had printed of the “May We Grow Back, Not To What Was, But Instead Towards What We Can Become ” from the garage studio and we walked the 3 blocks down to the grocery store before it opened.
The store serves the neighbors on this side of our hill. It’s an easy answer for an unplanned meal, and a frequent place to run into a friendly face. It is now one of the few shops open near our house, but no one recognizes each other with the masks, and we all hurry in and out.
I chose a spot on the wall outside the store where people line up to wait their turn to go inside. I taped the poster up a couple feet from the yellow and red warning signs that state in bold letters: Do not enter the store if you feel sick. Always wear a mask. Keep your distance from others.
I walked back home with this prayer in my head:
May it give someone standing on their piece of duct tape reason to look up from their phone and feel a sense of possibility.
I have 4 more of these large scale posters, and I want to send them out into the world in places where they can be seen. So I thought I’d do a Giveaway. 4 winners will receive a large print to post in their community and a smaller print to be enjoyed however they like. You can participate through Instagram or Facebook, or if you aren’t a social media person, just reply to this email with a sentence or two about where you will hang the big print in your community. Please feel free to share this email with anyone in your community who may want to participate. All “entries” must be received by Friday May 8th at midnight.
