Where Art Should Be Hanging-Art in Community

Last week I put out the call to submit ideas on where in your community you would hang the print –May We Grow Back, Not  to What Was, but Instead Towards What we Can Become. I got almost 150 beautiful and moving responses. I thought you might be inspired by some of the great ideas that were shared:

  • At a humanitarian aid center serving immigrants and asylum seekers on the US/Mexico border
  • At the local school where they hand out food to all children ages 0-18 every day
  • On a wall that everybody sees when waiting for the light to turn green when coming off the freeway
  • Outside City Hall where our young new female mayor just took office and could use the encouragement
  • On a vacant storefront where many homeless people take refuge
  • At the entrance of a student assistance program, a service center for the elderly, and an office for COVID hotline support
  • At a hospital on an acute psych unit for patients 65 years and older
  • On the wall behind the YouTube piano lessons for all the students to see
  • At the local Savemart where many people are choosing not to wear masks and protesting the SIP orders, as a gentle reminder that we are all in this together and that our actions affect each other and our larger community.
  • As a yard sign where lots of people walk past

Though I wish I could send prints to everyone who responded, I selected 7 people at random and sent out prints to all different parts of the country (and Canada too!). Even if you didn’t win the prints, I wanted to share this list and encourage you all to consider posting art in your community. Make your own, download the Radici coloring pages or get one from the shop and hang it were it can make a difference.

Let’s keep making art for our community. As the months wear on, I think we need it now more than ever.
