The other night, my daughter noticed the brilliant glowing planet Venus above our orange tree in the early evening sky, and asked if we could draw it instead of reading bedtime books. Usually I would usher her into bed so that I could “get things done” but it seems like a moment to throw normal life out the window.
I grabbed our sketchbooks and we sat outside smelling jasmines and coloring in the dark.
Art and nature feel sweeter than ever to me now. Nature makes me feel grounded and human and part of something bigger. Art helps me feel expansive, and reflective and connected to all of us who are trying to understand this wild moment.
So get outside when you can! As for the art, below are some options from Radici Studios for doing art together. Let’s meet our fears and fill our voids with the insight that comes from tapping into our inner wisdom and creativity. Please share around if you know of people who may benefit from these opportunities.
1) Free zoom Radici Art classes for all ages Wednesdays at 2pm PST/ 5pm EST. Zoom allows us to see each other’s faces, ask questions, share creations, and feel connected. Last week’s class was one of my favorite moments of the week- we made art to give to the special people in our lives and had some amazing conversations at the same time. I can’t wait for this week! Sign up here.
2) On Thursdays at 2pm I’m offering my more in depth Radici Art Workshops via Zoom. These are projects that connect and bring new insight between you and your 4-11 year old child/niece/fellow quarantined kin. This week’s class is:
My Story of Me. Here’s a chance for your child to be the protagonist of their very own book! We will explore kid’s “superpowers” and the attributes they possess which they can use to overcome challenges. Sign up here
3) I am going to try out an Adult Art Happy Hour at 5pm PST/8pm EST next Tuesday evening March 31st. Bring your favorite beverage, a pad of paper and anything you like to make art with for 30 minutes of community art making. The class will be donation based (i.e. make a donation to Meals on Wheels and The National Domestic Workers Alliance or a group working to protect those that are especially vulnerable right now.)
