The Emergency Was Curiosity is an illustrated book report from producer and artist (and my friend!) Christie George. Sparked by Jenny Odell’s 2019 book How To Do Nothing, it explores how we might reclaim our attention both individually and collectively.

What began as a creative response—remixing Odell’s ideas through hand-drawn illustrations, collages, watercolors, and essays—quickly evolved into something deeper. As the pandemic unfolded, the book report became a portal: a tender exploration of rural rhythms, artistic experiments, and the everyday wonder of paying close attention.

This book is for anyone curious about connection, perception, and how tuning into the natural world, each other, and ourselves might just be the most radical thing we can do. 8.5" x 11" hardcover, full color, 232 pgs.
