Alongside my colleague, Steph Balon, I co-facilitated a mural process for 50 high school students at the Students of Color Retreat in Novato. This event was held in collaboration with the Novato Unified School District and E3: Education, Excellence, Equity. Through guided reflection and creative exploration, students examined personal and collective challenges, as well as the sources of resilience in their lives. They then translated these insights into visual form, resulting in five murals depicting hands holding seeds—each representing different native California plants. These murals served as powerful expressions of identity, growth, and hope for change.
